The development of the docklands has a certain fascination for me.
I applaud the vision and bravery of people who strive to re-energize and renew this area of Dublin .
The construction of the Convention Centre, the re-development of the Point Village were part of the plan. Across the river we saw the renewal of Grand Canal Quay with new apartments, office developments and lively cafes to service the new Grand Canal Theatre ,designed by the world-renowned Daniel Liebeskind [other projects include Ground Zero – New York].
Meanwhile the construction of the Samuel Beckett Bridge designed by the renowned architect Santiago Calatrava provides a link for pedestrians and vehicles between the two.
When I was asked to photograph this building in Forbes Street it immediately stood out as representing the new dynamism within the area.
My choice of low angle of view looking up into a clear blue sky described for me the sharp and inspirational thinking behind all the development in this area.
It was particularly important include the old chimney stack which is a significant link with the past.
